The softball gods were smiling down on the Raiders at the Grand Slam tournament (2-3 June). We entered two teams and both performed very well!
In round robin play, Raiders Blue won 2 games and lost 6. But they won the game that mattered most: the Plate semifinal against The Mob. Blues played in the Plate final and fought hard but came up short against the Thames Valley Tigers.
The Gold team went undefeated (8-0) in round robin play, taking the top seed into the Cup semifinal. The Golds topped the Cheetahs, who had so many pitching problems they had to enlist the help of the umpire to pitch for them! In the Cup Final, the Gold team took a big early lead thanks to some solid batting and held on through 7 innings to beat the Common People. Most impressively, the Gold team played each game with 4 men and 8 women!
Both teams earned medals and we now have 2 new trophies to add to the Raiders collection. More importantly, the club earned 3 cases of beer, which disappeared before we'd even left the pitch. Well done everyone!
